A stellar goat show took place Friday morning at the East Pottawattamie County Fair in Avoca.

Many 4-H kids entered the show arena throughout the competition, showcasing all of their hard work from throughout the year. Jill Kadel with East Pottawattamie County Extension says everyone in attendance had a great time watching the show while maintaining social distancing.

?The kids were great,? Kadel said. ?They were ready, alert and they knew their spots. That helped a lot. It was great that the community respected the decision to not allow the public at the show and to just keep it family only.?

Like other county fairs taking place in Iowa this summer, Kadel says it was challenging getting everything scheduled and put together due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

?It?s been a lot different getting ready for the fair this year then what we have in the past years,? Kadel said. ?We made sure safety was our number one priority and reevaluated some our processes like how close the pens were together, making sure that the youth knew what the process would be, and making sure families understood.?

The sheep show was also held on Friday morning inside the large show arena at the fairgrounds in Avoca. The beef, swine, poultry, rabbit, small pet, and dog shows were all scheduled to take place over the weekend.
