You’re Not Going to Heaven Because You Attend Church

If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. -Romans 10:9-10

You’re not going to heaven because you went to church this past Sunday.

You’re not a Christian because you’re actively involved in your local congregation.

This news might be shocking to hear from a pastor’s wife, but personal devotion to a building or checking an attendance box will not get someone into heaven.

No doubt church attendance is good for believers, but being a Christian is less about attending church once a week, and more about living your life like Jesus.

It is important to go to church and gather with your fellow Christians to publicly share and declare your love to God, but you can’t clock out right after the message is over.

There are a lot of people who claim to be Christians, but nothing they do reflects the heart of Jesus.

Being a Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, nursery worker, worship leader, or pastor, doesn’t mean you’re a Christian.

Being a christian ultimately results in new love, passions, desires, joys, longings, heart and life. Being a Christ follower, results in a daily lifestyle action.

If you went to church this Sunday good, but Satan went to church too. Just because you show up and participate doesn’t mean you’ve been radically changed by a radical Savior.

God doesn’t call us to go to church, He wants us to BE the church.

Are you being the church, or just showing up for church?

Prayer: “God, help me to BE the church, not just attend church. I want to have a heart and life that reflect you. In your name I pray, Amen.”
