Women in agriculture will come from far and wide for an annual conference Friday and Saturday in Davenport. The conference is hosted by the Women, Food and Agriculture Network. Bridget Holcomb is Executive Director of the Women, Food and Agriculture Network. She says this is a great way for women to empower themselves.

?It is a wonderful time for women in agriculture to get together because so often women feel like the black sheep in their communities. Sometimes they feel like they are the only women farmer or they?re the only one growing non-commodity crops. What happens at our conference is we get 200 women from around the region and country together and they realize I am not alone. There are a lot of women just like me,? Holcomb said.

The topic of this year?s conference is “Women Protecting Pollinators, Protecting Food.”

?So many of the women in are network talk about how they want to do something to protect pollinators. Either because they depend on pollinators for their crop or because they want to make sure their land is a refuge for pollinators. So we?re going to provide them with a lot of information about what they can do,? Holcomb said.

Holcomb adds Robin Kimmerer is the keynote speaker this year. She is a professor of environmental and forest biology at the State University of New York. She will talk about living in reciprocity with the land. Another highlight will include the popular Friday evening farm-to-table tasting event. The Women, Food and Agriculture Network Conference takes place Friday and Saturday at the Radisson Quad City Plaza, in Davenport, Iowa.
