Governor Kim Reynolds congratulated Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey during her weekly press conference Tuesday.

?Bill is a phenomenal secretary of agriculture. He is one of the best in the nation and has done so much. He?s worked diligently on water quality and put in place the Nutrient Reduction Strategy which we believe is the right strategy. While he will be missed in Iowa, we are fortunate he will not only represent Iowa but the country.?

Confirmations have been taking a while in Washington. Reynolds says if that continues, she’ll have plenty of time to choose a replacement.

?They?ve not been timely getting things done in Washington, D.C. and Bill is not going to resign until he has been confirmed by the Senate, so we have some time.?

Reynolds has a lot of names under consideration.

?He?s set the bar high and I think anyone who can emulate what Bill was able to do would be a great person to appoint to that position. We have a lot of qualified people so when the time is appropriate we will make that decision,? Reynolds says.

Northey?s Senate confirmation hearing is scheduled for September 19th.
