When we talk about the livestock industry, we mainly focus on producers and the product they raise. However, one essential, but often overlooked part of any strong livestock operation is the feed manufacturer. How is 2019 shaping up for them?

Audio: Interview with Leah Wilkinson, VP of Public Policy for AFIA

Leah Wilkinson is Vice President of Public Policy and Education for the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA). She says as the industry moves forward into 2019, there are three areas of focus.

Trade has been a factor in the feed production industry, just like it has been for agriculture. Wilkinson says when the first shots of the trade war were fired, the work they were doing with China came to a screeching halt.

Wilkinson says they are also working diligently with the Food Safety Modernization Act. They are especially working closely with Federal Regulators.

With concerns over African Swine Fever, Wilkinson says AFIA has ramped up their efforts to prevent any movement of the disease into the United States through the feed supply chain.
