Wet weather induces threat to high-yielding soybeans

A lot of work goes into producing a crop, especially high-yielding soybeans.

Growers will have to put forth a little more effort this year to protect their crop.

Excessive rainfall poses threat to high-yielding soybeans, as it has the potential to increase the impact of disease on soybean yield. Phil Krieg, agronomy service representative for Syngenta, presents a tool to protect your investment: Miravis? Neo fungicide, the most recent addition to Syngenta?s fungicide portfolio.

?When Syngenta launches a new fungicide product, the goal is to get better disease control and plant health than any other products available. …Miravis Neo brings a new SDHI technology, a product called Adepidyn? fungicide, to the marketplace. You?ll be able to see it from the road – the plant health benefits and disease control you?re going to get out of this new SDHI,? Krieg said.

Miravis ? Neo?s active ingredients allow for better plant health, according to Krieg.

?We?ve added Adepidyn with azoxystrobin and propiconazole. It?s the first three-way mix we?ve been working with this heavily in soybeans. The greening effect of Adepidyn has showed up,? Krieg said. ?Increasing plant health and the plant?s ability to capture sunlight through healthy leaves for good photosynthetic activity – to fill those pods, put more and bigger beans in the pods – has paid off.?

Soybean growers have seen great improvements in plant health, after using Miravis? Neo. Krieg highlights additional results from early fungicide trials.

?In soybeans, we?ve got a couple sets of trials where we increased yields by 4.9 bushels per acre versus untreated. That computes to about $40 an acre in increased revenue for growers,? Krieg said. ?Another set of trials, where we had even more disease, we increased yield by 8.2 bushels per acre compared to untreated. The performance of the product last year, in trials, was very consistent and gave us a good return on investment of that application.?
