According to the long serving chief meteorologist, Bryce Anderson from DTN, we are finally punching through the worst of spring weather.

His forecast is for improving weather this week. By Memorial Day Anderson says we will be back to normal to above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall in the western corn belt. “In the Western and Northwestern Corn belt we are going to see less rainfall and warmer conditions. I think that’s going to be useful,” Anderson says.

The eastern corn belt will not be out of the rain for awhile.

Right now there is standing water from Western Iowa all the way to Ohio. Anderson says, “There is no doubt there has been terrific rainfall. I think over the next week or so things are going to get better in the Western part of the corn belt. It’s still going to be pretty soggy in the Eastern belt though.”

The worst area’s affected by flooding are from St. Louis to the south due to heavy rain. Rainfall amounts have been 2-3 times more than normal.

However, true summer weather won’t be seen until Mid June. “I think as we get through the first half of June we are going to be in that transition time frame. I would say middle of June on we are going to have a much warmer scenario,” Anderson says.
