Most of the state will get a break from the heat this week.

State Climatologist Harry Hillaker says highs will in the mid-70s with lows around 50.

He also says October looks to be fairly-dry making conditions ideal for harvest.

?It slightly favors above normal temperatures for the month and fall outlook has better odds for above normal temperatures and below normal rainfall as well.?

Hillaker adds the area is also in a La Nina watch.

?It?s now the most-likely outcome for this coming winter. We?re not there yet. We?re still neutral but looks like a La Nina is on the way for this winter which what we had last winter but it did not behave typically because we had a pretty mild winter. La Nina?s tend to be wet and colder in the north,? Hillaker says.

He spoke to me Friday at the Iowa Department and Land Stewardship.
