There are approximately 25,000 biotechnology jobs in Iowa. Most also don?t realize biotech plants ship products across the world. But one organization continues to highlight the importance of their industry by providing people with an up-close look.

This is part of the Iowa Biotech Association’s Biotech Spotlight Series.

Last Wednesday, a group toured Valent BioSciences in Osage.

?This is the first time I?ve visited so I?m going to learn a lot about their facility too. This was a real economic success story. They opened back in 2012 so it is a relatively new facility,? Joe Hrdlicka, Executive Director of the Iowa Biotech Association says.

Around 70 people registered for the tour. They also toured Zoetis, an animal health company Thursday.

?I?m always amazed by the interest we get. We get local officials, industry professionals, and economic development leaders. It is a chance for us to do two things. Educate people about what is happening in the bioscience industry and gives everyone a chance to network,? Hrdlicka says.

For the last four years, the Iowa Biotech Association has highlighted a company in the biotech industry.

The series previously highlighted companies in Cedar Rapids/Coralville, Eddyville, and the Sioux Center area.
