During the National Cattle Industry Convention in New Orleans, there was much talk about the positivity of the cattle industry. One of those positives has been the increased numbers in U.S. beef exports around the world.

US Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Halstrom says when the final numbers come in for 2018, beef export numbers should be above eight billion dollars for the first time ever.

Halstrom told the audience virtually every export market saw growth in 2018. Of course, there were a few exceptions. The big question is what is fueling the demand for increased exports of U.S. Beef? Halstrom outlines several factors including an increased middle class and quality of the product.

Halstrom also says a finalized trade agreement with Japan is crucial to the continued success of U.S. beef exports.

Halstrom says it is the future of the Japanese trade agreement which keeps him up at night.
