The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) elected an Iowa Corn Promotion Board (ICPB) member as chairman, the first female to be elected to the position in the organization?s nearly 60-year history.

Deb Keller, a second-generation farmer from Clarion, Iowa, was elected as U.S. Grains Council Chairman Wednesday at the organization?s 57th annual Board of Delegates meeting in Vancouver, Washington.

Keller shared with the Iowa Corn Growers Association that she has worked to become USGC chairman over the last 10 years.

?As a corn farmer, I always knew how important markets were, but I wasn?t aware of all the intricacies involved in enabling trade,? Keller said. ?I?ve come to appreciate how much the Council does for me as a farmer, not only in developing markets, but also in enabling trade.”

Keller previously served as lead of the Council?s Rest of World (ROW) A-team, as well as chair of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board and member of the National Corn Growers Association?s (NCGA) Research and Business Development Action Team.

Keller will serve as USGC chairman until July 2018. Other Iowans elected to the USGC Board of Delegates include: Craig Floss, with the Iowa Corn Promotion Board.
