The latest U.S. red meat export numbers are out. U.S. Meat Export Federation assistant vice president of industry relations John Hinners says trade momentum for pork exports continued in November.

?We?ve got one more month before we can check off the 2016 year but November was a really strong month. Right now we?re looking at $5.4 billion of U.S. pork exports leaving the country. We?re having a very successful year and one of the largest months ever for pork exports.?

Pork exports are 20 percent above year ago levels in both volume and value. This strength is coming at a time when the U.S. is facing stiff competition in the global pork trade?tape

?When you look at the European Union, there?s been a tremendous amount of pork that had to find a new direction because EU as a block we are sending pork into Russia. That market shut down for the EU and they had to go find new markets.?

U.S. pork production is reaching record levels and exports are an important way to market that product.
