There was a major fire a couple weeks ago in a packing plant in western Kansas.

After things cooled down, industry analysts say the packing industry took advantage of the situation and increased profitability, while cattle prices plunged.

Manchester Livestock Auction?s Tuesday market report dropped 10-dollars per hundred weight two weeks ago because of lack of buyers.

The relationship between packers and cattle producers has always been strained. In this case, it appears packers are not kinder or gentler than their heritage.
