Training is key for dicamba application going forward

With the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) clearing the way for the continued use of dicamba, it really is going to now come down to training and education. Bayer Crop Science is committed to making sure producers and applicators are not just trained on what XtendiMax products can do for weed control, but also about best management practices. Bayer Crop Science?s Ryan Rubischko says the importance of the XtendiMax product is not just in what it does, but how it is applied.

Rubischko says Bayer has worked with individual states to show what their products can do when handled properly. He is confident many states will be approving the use of dicamba products. Many states, like Iowa, have no plans to deviate from Federal guidelines at all.

Rubischko is hopeful Arkansas will listen to its producers and reverse course on their Dicamba ban. He also hopes states which modified EPA guidelines for dicamba, such as Minnesota, will revisit their plans. Minnesota had many farmers unable to use the product because weather conditions put them past the application deadlines.

Producers are encouraged to get their training completed as soon as possible so they are ready for 2019 growing season.
