Trade war with China affects agriculture

The last thing the agriculture sector has wanted is a trade war with China. It is no longer a matter of trying to avoid a trade war, it is now a matter of trying to end one.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is painfully aware that the subject of trade is a touchy one. Not only is agriculture affected, but manufacturing and business are feeling the pinch. Governor Reynolds says, nobody wins in this situation.

However, with agriculture being not only the chief export of Iowa, but also a major export of the United States, it?s an easy target. On Monday, China imposed a 25% tariff on pork imported from the United States. Governor Reynolds is aware of the impact this tariff is having on the markets.

Governor Reynolds says she has no problem voicing her disagreement with the Trump Administration?s moves on trade, tariffs, North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), and the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS). Reynolds states, ?With a fragile Ag economy, any opportunity we get to weigh in and encourage them to find resolutions without elevating the situation further, is very important.
