The clock is ticking on signing up for the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program through the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA). The deadline is fast approaching. However, dairy producers need to realize they are going to have to turn around and sign up for 2020 very soon. If that seems confusing, we will sort it all out for you.
Amanda De Jong is the Iowa State FSA Director. She reminds producers they have until this Friday, September 20th, to sign up for 2019 coverage.
We will see things get back on a much more normal schedule next month. The 2020 DMC program signup begins October 7th. The reason the 2019 signup is so far behind is because of the late passage of the farm bill. 2019 has been full of retroactive signups. De Jong says even if you elected five-year coverage starting in 2019, you need to re-enroll your elections for 2020.
