The usage of drones in agriculture practices keeps growing

Just five years ago drones were considered a pretty neat little toy. We could fly them around, take some neat pictures, and even grab some videos. Farmers and elevators were using them to give flyover tours of their facilities or make harvesting videos. It was then that something clicked.

Don?t get me wrong. Drones are still fun to play around with. The kid in all of us will still see them as another remote-control toy. However, they have given producers and agronomists a new tool with a scope that seems to keep growing. Todd Arduser with Channel Seeds talks about just how far we have come.

Now the cameras have become essential tools in field scouting. Arduser talks about how Channel Seeds is planning to implement them in gathering data on stand counts in your fields.

These tools aren?t meant to replace the years of wisdom gained from being boots on the ground in crop scouting. They are meant to be used in tandem. Now after only a few minutes of aerial flyovers, Arduser says the data collected tells them where they need to go take an in-person look in the field.

The technology for drones will only continue to expand. These tools are becoming more of a valid agricultural partner than we may have ever imagined.
