The “How” is more important that the “What”

Do everything in love. -1 Corinthians 16:14

2_plumbing_01_729Have you ever felt like what you were doing was completely pointless? Maybe you feel like being a plumber and fixing someone’s drains seems utterly disgusting and stupid. Maybe being a stay at home mom feels un-fulfilling and under-appreciated. Maybe you never thought sitting behind a desk all day would feel as lonely as it has ended up. So, because what you’re doing seems pointless, you just barely skim by on getting what you’re doing accomplished.

I have been there. I might not be a plumber, or a mom, but I have first hand felt the pain of emptiness of being where you are in the present moment. I have completed things, but just did bare minimum.

Recently, God has revealed to me that it’s not so much about what I do, as much as how I do it. I caught myself doing things, but not to the potential God has for me. The Bible says to do everything in love. That means if you are a plumber, you are to do everything in love. If you are a teacher, do EVERYTHING in love. Scripture doesn’t say to do some things in love, or do things you want to do in love. The Bible says do EVERYTHING in love. That everything includes your job, or whatever else you deem to be pointless.

Friend, where you are today may be exactly the training you need for the place where God wants to take you tomorrow. Do everything in love!

Prayer: “God, thank you for reminding that what I do may not be as important as how I do it. Help me to do everything for your glory. I want to do everything in love. In your name I pray, Amen.”
