There are many challenges of farming land upstream from cities who drink water that flows off farms into rivers. The City of Cedar Rapids is taking a much different approach than Des Moines but it will take money, education and time to get the desired result. At the recent Iowa Soybean Association Research Conference, Ben Nuelle spoke with Steve Hershner, Utilities Director for City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They discussed the challenges of water quality, upstream and down.
