Women have been involved with agriculture for generations. We all know who keeps the family going through the fall harvest while balancing a 4-H meeting and school activities. But what about being leaders on the state and national stage?

It hasn?t been until the last 20 years or more, that we have seen women step into the spotlight as ag leaders on the larger stage. One of those leaders has been very vocal for agriculture in many facets, and that is Mary Kay Thatcher, the senior lead of Federal Government Relations for Syngenta. Thatcher has been deeply involved in doing the work of agriculture for years. You would be hard pressed to find somebody in ag, who doesn?t know who she is.

Mary Kay is coming to Ankeny on Thursday, August 2nd, to speak at the 12th annual Iowa Women in Agriculture Conference. Thatcher says her goal is to convince women they need to become more involved.

Thatcher says there are many levels where women can be involved, but that becoming involved is the key.

Thatcher says the networking is important at an event like this.
