Temperatures heat up again this week

Temperatures will continue to heat up again this week with highs in the upper 90s. A southeast Iowa farmer says despite less moisture the last few weeks his crops don?t look too bad.

Lindsay Greiner of Keota grows corn and soybeans in southeast Iowa.

?Our crops look surprisingly good for the lack of rain we?ve had. A lot of the corn around here got planted in mid to late April and it looks good. The only thing I would say about the corn is that it is taking a long time and spotty tasseling because of the stress of being so hot and dry.?

In his area, says early-planted soybeans look good but not so much for ones planted late.

?The ones put in in late May really just haven?t gotten any rain and they are really struggling. Beans aren?t very tall and not growing a lot. With dry weather, there is some stress but they are blooming now,? Greiner said.

State Climatologist says it?s going to get hot again this week.

?Rain chances don?t look very promising for most of Iowa. The far north might get a fair amount of rain yet this week. The storm tracks expect to be along the Iowa Minnesota border and they could get quite a bit of rain coming sometime between Tuesday and Friday.?

Hillaker adds elsewhere in the state will remain dry. The recent U.S. Drought Monitor shows the northwest and parts of the southeast portions of Iowa to be ?abnormally dry? putting more stress on crops.
