Syngenta focusing on simplicity with new seed trait names

Farmers know just how complicated agronomy can be, especially when it comes to seed genetics. There are many factors to consider when picking out the right seed for a farm, and sometimes all of that information can be pretty difficult to process. That?s why Syngenta has decided to modify the naming system for their corn traits. Syngenta?s Drew Showalter said they hope this new system will make it easier for farmers to understand the benefits of certain traits.

Showalter said the primary focus is on their Duracade and Viptera corn traits.

With high input costs, farmers are looking for other ways to save money and offset some of that stress. Showalter said their genetics will help protect from things like corn rootworm, which, in turn, will help alleviate some of the pressure farmers are feeling from high input costs.

Drought is another issue that?s impacted farmers this year, and this is a problem that is truly unavoidable. As much as they would like to, farmers just can’t predict or control the weather. However, that doesn?t mean they?re completely helpless in the face of hot and dry weather. Showalter said that Syngenta?s Artesian corn was made specifically to protect yields in the face of drought conditions.
