Iowa is known for the crops it can produce: Corn, Soybeans, Sweet Potatoes, Wheat? Wait a minute? Sweet Potatoes? Are those not grown in the south?

Iowa State University Associate Professor and Vegetable Extension Specialist, Dr. Ajay Nair, says Iowa has conditions that will work for growing some varieties of Sweet Potatoes.

Nair says producing sweet potatoes is out of the box thinking for Iowa, but it is something that can have value for the producer and the consumer.

Nair says that interest in sweet potatoes is growing, and you do not need to have a lot of acres invested.
