We know that to be successful in your operation, you need to be sustainable. You need to be able to show that your business is strong and can weather the hard times. You also need to be able to show that you are being responsible to the environment and live up to the regulations that are in effect in your particular county or state. You also must be accountable to the packing companies and the consumer. They are looking for a certain product, and they want to make sure that what you are doing is living up to that demand.

That National Pork Board and the Pork Checkoff are offering you to get a sustainability report made for your operation. This will help you see how your farm stacks up against others and help you communicate with all the outside organizations that affect how you do business. Brett Kaysen is VP of Sustainability for the National Pork Board. He talks about why it is important for producers to be sustainability-minded, and how these reports can help you provide an overview that works wherever you need it.

Now, before you start to panic about how you can obtain all the information needed for this kind of report, take a deep breath. All you have to do is go to the Pork Checkoff?s sustainability website and fill out a request form to get your report going. After that, the National Pork Board will come to you.

Kaysen talks about the information that is collected. It is extensive and gives a precise look at your operation?s practices. The data is kept secure by ?blinding? the owner?s info and comparing it against other area operations.

Farmers can also take this information about their operations and those around them and improve their operation?s efficiency. This data is also useful for communicating with the consumers.

Here is a sample of what a sustainability report can look like.
