An event will highlight the work of Iowans in the fight against hunger.

Crystal Harris is senior administrative officer for The World Food Prize and director of the Iowa Hunger Summit. Harris hopes the Iowa Hunger Summit inspires Iowans to become more involved.

?I hope they have a chance to educate themselves on the issues. I also hope people find ways to get involved. So, not only (do we) highlight the work Iowans are doing to address food insecurity in the state, but how they can take it to the next level,? Harris said.

The Summit will feature three panel discussions, a luncheon and various breakout sessions. The early morning panel will host five former secretaries of agriculture: Tom Vilsack, Dan Glickman, Ann Veneman, Mike Johanns and Ed Schafer. Harris describes organizing the Secretaries Panel.

?The timing just worked out,? Harris said. ?Secretary Vilsack recently joined our Council of Advisors. We asked Secretary Vilsack if he would be interested in doing this. He agreed to invite other secretaries, and they all said yes.?

It is also worth noting ? Tom Vilsack, along with former governors Robert Ray and Terry Branstad, helped The World Food Prize in creating the Iowa Hunger Summit, back in 2006.
