Soy-based shoes being donated to frontline workers

Many companies and organizations have been finding ways to say thanks to all the frontline workers who have tirelessly fought for their friends, neighbors, and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. One American shoe company is saying thank you by donating up to 10,000 pairs of their soy-based sandals. The United Soybean Board (USB) is happy to help spread the word about another use for American grown beans.

Okabashi is one of only a small number of American-made footwear, and they count on U.S. soybeans to make their product. They have pledged to donate a pair of shoes to a frontline worker for every pair of their shoes purchased through their website.

Belinda Burrier is a director on the United Soybean Board. She says that the USB commends the company for its generosity.

Burrier talks about the decision Okabashi made to use Soybean Oil to make their products.

Burrier says being able to have another use for an abundance of soybean oil is a win for the soy industry, and having the product fit the designs of the company is a win for them. This is exactly the kind of results farmers expect from the promotion of our American-grown soybeans.

Burrier says the United Soybean Board is committed to the industrial applications for soybean products. She says this wide range of products is increasing demand for U.S. soybean producers.
