South American Weather and Crop Update (3-21-23)

Once again, things haven?t changed much in South America. It may sound like a broken record at this point, but Brazil is still getting some rains, and the rain in Argentina is too little, too late. Allendale commodity broker Greg McBride provided a breakdown of the weather in South America.

With those rains in Brazil, harvest and planting progress are still lagging behind the average. McBride said they?ll want to get planting done sooner rather than later, as a late planting can cause the crops to pollinate during the dry season.

We?ve said it many times before, but things still don?t look good in Argentina. McBride said that analysts are continuing to lower their crop projections in both corn and soybeans.

On the other hand, some of the estimates for Brazil are lowering a little bit, but the numbers still look great.

McBride also provided some advice for Iowa producers.
