Low commodity prices are putting stress on Iowa banks but banks remain strong.

Dave Nelson is the current chair of the Iowa Bankers Association. He says some banks across the state are showing signs of stress.

?There is a lot of concern with our commodity prices coming off the farm and what the ramifications of that could be. Everything in our state is tied to that. Who buys the pickup trucks? We have some concerns but by enlarge things are looking good,? Nelson says.

Bankers from over 300 banks across Iowa are at the Iowa Bankers Association?s annual convention in Des Moines Monday and Tuesday.

?There has been some signs of stress and vacancies on the east and west coasts. Here in Iowa there hasn?t been any visible signs of alarm about anything. It is just more of a feeling of uncertainty.?

Nelson is CEO of West Bank in West Des Moines. The conference wraps up today in downtown Des Moines. The Iowa Bankers Association also hopes a tax reform bill can get passed later this year.
