We know that there is high demand for American and Iowa soybeans. You can hear about it practically every time you hear the markets. The key is to get more processing done closer to home, and that is where Shell Rock Soy Processing (SRSP) comes in. It will offer a new facility in Northeast Iowa to process more Iowa-grown soybeans faster. The project recently cleared a major hurdle in moving forward.

AUDIO: Full interview with Mike Kinley of Shell Rock Soy Processing

Mike Kinley is CEO of Mid-Iowa Cooperative and a developing partner of SRSP, which will be located northwest of Shell Rock. He talks about where the idea for the project came from, and what its ultimate goal will be.

With the number of soybeans we export and the demand for soy oil and soy meal, Kinley says having the crushing facility close to home is very important.

Recently, SRSP cleared a hurdle in the journey to reality when they obtained their air-quality permit from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The hope is to have the plant up and operational by December of 2022, and they will be buying beans by the summer of 2022.

Kinley says there has been great interest in selling products and investment in the project. He says that there is a lot of interest in the jobs that this facility will be providing to the local residents. This is a great sign for the future of a facility that is still more than a year and a half away from opening.
