We only have a small amount of time left to get the United States ? Mexico ? Canada Agreement (USMCA) through Congress before this session ends. Supporters of the trade pact are increasing pressure on lawmakers to act, but one Senate Ag Leader is suggesting the tempo be slowed down.

Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) recently suggested everybody take a breath and ?pump the brakes? on USMCA.

However, the momentum for passage is growing, even from members of her own party in the House. Former Regan Administration Agriculture Secretary John Block also weighed in on moving the bill now.

Stabenow says ramming USMCA through will do nothing to fix the problems caused by the Trump Administration?s trade policies and the effects they have had on commodity markets.

House Speaker Pelosi said last week that a deal was ?imminent.? This week she has suggested a delay until 2020. Current Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue said earlier in the year that failing to pass USMCA is ?an evil thought.?
