The strains of the times are affecting us all. However, many farmers have been looking forward to getting their planters rolling. It is a feeling of normalcy during these uncertain times. One farmer has told me that planting was, ?the surest sign that life goes on.? Today, Senator Chuck Grassley told Ag reporters that farmers are trying to hang on to the optimism that this won?t last forever and 2020 is not the same as prior years and hopefully won’t be repeated.

Senator Grassley said that farmers he has talked to are trying to remain optimistic as we move forward with the plant. This is despite the lowest prices seen in years. However, every year presents challenges and farmers rise to them.

Grassley says he feels the administration knows that agriculture?s circumstances are dire. The Senator is in communication with President Trump and Vice President Pence. He has asked for more tests to be made available for meatpacker employees. The Senator stressed the need to protect the essential workers.

Senator Grassley says he is urging the President to push the payments to farmers as quickly as possible.
