Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley held his weekly Ag media call on Tuesday. In the call, he talked about the effort being made to reform subsidy payments which are part of the new Farm Bill.

Senator Grassley joined with Nebraska Representative Jeff Fortenberry (R-1st) in sending a letter to U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue, asking him to use his authority to make sure farm payments go to those people deemed to be ?actively engaged in farming.?

Grassley had an amendment in the Senate version of the Farm Bill to close what the Senator calls a loophole in granting subsidy payments to ?unlimited managers.? Grassley?s amendment did not make the final version of the bill.

While Grassley says this is in no way going to go as far as his amendment would have, he urges Secretary Perdue to do all he can within the letter of existing law.
