If you are not familiar with the Biden Administration?s 30×30 plan, it calls for having 30% of American land in conservation by 2030. While it sounds noble, and protecting land is a good way to help our environment, there isn?t a whole lot of clarity of just where those lands are coming from. That question is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to management and intentions of the program.

Senator Ernst is one of several lawmakers wanting some clarification on the program, before it is just railroaded through.

I had the chance to speak with Senator Ernst last week, and we talked about some of her questions regarding the 30×30 plan. Ag Secretary Vilsack says that it will be like a CRP program. Ernst questions what the plan is if they don?t get 30% of the land voluntarily.

Ernst says that many constituents that are beginning farmers are already having trouble finding land to get started, now the 30×30 could be jeopardizing this even further.

Ernst also adds that we need to see a proper comment period for citizens to raise concerns or ask questions. This has yet to happen. Ernst is concerned that people will not have a voice on this decision.

Ernst says while supports voluntary enrollment of acres into conservation programs, she is not supportive of land owners being told by the government how they are to use their privately owned land.
