*UPDATED 10:27am Thursday*

Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee put a hold on the nomination of Bill Northey to a senior USDA post Wednesday.

According to Politico’s Morning Ag Report, Senator Lee lifted his hold as of Wednesday afternoon but a Republican Senate aide said Cruz’s hold was still on as of late in the afternoon.

Some Democratic senators had issues with Northey’s official title at USDA last week but Northey’s nomination had been expected to breeze through the chamber.

Some say this is payback for Senators Ernst and Grassley aggressively fighting back against the Environmental Protection Agency wanting to lower numbers in the Renewable Fuels Standard.
