Senate grants Russia PNTR

By a vote of 92 to 4, the U.S. Senate voted Thursday to grant Russia Permanent Normal Trade Relations.

Legislation granting Russia PNTR was passed by the House on November 16 with a vote of 365-43. If signed by the president, the legislation would allow the US to double its exports to Russia over the next 5 years.

In November, Senate Finance Committee Chair Max Baucus called on the Senate to pass PNTR legislation for Russia after the Thanksgiving recess.

The bill is now moves to the President’s desk for approval. If the president fails to sign it within the next ten days, the bill will automatically take effect.
