Iowa?s new State Director for Rural Development sets goals for her time in office.

Buckeye, Iowa native Annette Sweeney was recently appointed.

?I grew up on a farm just outside Buckeye. In fact, I still live in the same house I grew up in. I believe in the rural areas and rural development,? Sweeney says.

Sweeney would like to help improve the state?s infrastructure as director.

?We always talk about infrastructure. When we have infrastructure, that leads to more jobs, access to capital for rural communities, commerce, and international trade. Accelerated startup businesses and entrepreneurial innovations (help) and keep people in our state,? Sweeney says.

She says she?ll also work with USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue on improving rural broadband across the state.

?For somebody wanting to start a business, that is number one. You have to be on the internet. Broadband services, I truly believe will bring jobs to our state,? Sweeney says.

Sweeney adds it will also keep young entrepreneurs from leaving.
