A recent report from the American Farmland Trust shows that rural farmland acres are disappearing rapidly due to urban sprawl and development.

Angie Doucette, Midwest farmland protection manager with American Farmland Trust, says that despite the quality of farmland in the Midwest, farmland acres are being lost at an increasing rate.

Doucette says that once farmland is lost to urban development, it could be lost for good.

She says farmland is disappearing from many midwestern states at a rate that is on the rise.

Doucette says there are ways to try and preserve farm acres from being absorbed into city zoning plans.

That?s Angie Doucette, Midwest farmland protection manager with American Farmland Trust.
