Risk of flooding in Midwest has significantly decreased

Just a month or so ago, the threat of flooding in the Midwest was still a very real concern. After flooding that caused havoc throughout the corn belt and especially in the Southwest part of Iowa, the thought of more was not what anybody wanted to hear. Now as we are ready to get our planting underway, the message has changed.

Bryce Anderson is the Senior Ag Meteorologist at DTN, and the guru we turn to when we want accurate predictions on the growing season. Anderson has revised his forecasts again as April has taken shape. He says we will not see the number of delays we saw in 2019?s planting season.

Anderson says the changes he has seen in the past month are being corroborated by others.

This doesn?t mean that there is no chance of flooding anywhere at all. There is still a significant risk to our neighbors in Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Anderson doesn?t see those regions catching a break anytime soon.

With those neighbors having to see their water move somewhere, we in Iowa need to be aware we could see some level of flooding. Just not the catastrophic levels we saw in 2019.
