Reservoir or River?

The other day I came across two different definitions that caught me in my tracks. A reservoir and a river.

Both of these things deal with water, but in completely different ways.

A reservoir is a natural or artificial place where water is collected and stored.

It is a receptacle or chamber for holding a liquid or fluid.

A river is a natural stream of water of fairly large size flowing in a definite course.

It is a continuous flow; an outpouring.

These definitions can take on the shape of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

We have the choice to keep our love in a holding place where we only access it (reservoir), or it can flow and pour out of us (river).

Give away love freely. We should be rivers, not reservoirs. Which are you?

Prayer: “God, thank you for the chance to learn more about what it means to follow you through definitions of words. Help my love to look like yours. May I give away your love freely. In your name I pray, Amen.”
