As we are in the midst of renegotiating a bilateral trade deal with Japan, we are still seeing the demand for U.S. pork and beef to be high there. Of course, with more tough competition from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) members, we are going to have to work that much harder.

Not only are we working to secure a trade pact with Japan, but we are also enjoying the benefits of the Korea-United States Trade Agreement (KORUS). We are seeing the market explode in the small peninsula nation. U.S. Meat Export Federation?s (USMEF) Julie Anna Potts just returned from a trip to both nations. She says this trip gave her the opportunity to interact with both suppliers and consumers.

Potts says the success we have been having is not just due to favorable trade climates, but also the hard work USMEF staffers are doing to promote our products to consumers.

Potts reemphasizes the need to reestablish trade certainty for our partners in Japan. This way we can see the benefits we are getting in Korea.
