The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Monday confirmed that farmers are rapidly catching up on corn planting and are exceeding the average soybean planting rate. Iowa is running ahead of the national average on both. But the key is weather.

We need rain, but not too much to stop planting or drown out low spots. An agricultural meteorologist gives his prediction of what’s ahead for several areas of the country.
