Before anybody reads this headline and scrambles to find the old bomb shelter your parents or grandparents built in the 60s, it isn?t that kind of weapon. Most people wouldn?t consider it a weapon unless it is being intentionally used as one. However, it is a weapon that can bring a lot of suffering and even death into the world. It is a relatively harmless thing, and usually doesn?t bring about mass destruction, but, unlike the bomb, it isn?t limited to a small geographic space. It can strike anyone, anywhere, and at any time. It isn?t armored, it doesn?t use gunpowder, and it certainly isn?t outlawed by the Geneva Convention.

Do you give up?

I am talking about food.

Ukraine is the hub for ag goods in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The uncertainty of where food supplies are coming from has made for some dire uncertainty, especially for those who aren?t sure where their next meal will come from.

John Kirby is a Spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council. He weighs in on the direct and indirect consequences Putin?s invasion of Ukraine is causing.

Global food security has been affected by what Kirby calls an ?unprovoked war by Russia.?

Now there is an agreement that allows for rain shipments to leave Ukrainian ports, but not all of them. Also, the deadline for this agreement is fast approaching.

Kirby says many countries want to see the war end, although he doesn?t think that will take the form of direct military involvement by the United States.
