Experts with Purina Animal Nutrition spent time at the 2021 World Pork Expo showcasing feed technologies designed to meet today?s challenges for successful futures.

There?s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution in pork production, says Dr. Emily Otto-Tice ? Purina Animal Nutrition swine nutritionist. She tells IARN that nutrition impacts many aspects of a pig?s growth and development, including its immune system.

?We really pride ourselves on our research we do at our Purina Animal Nutrition Center, especially with our farrow to finish units and our offsite facilities that are geared for commercial production,? said Otto-Tice. ?We are looking at finding those new compounds and ingredients that help drive feed intake and help keep those animals efficient.?

Otto-Tice says Purina has recently been focusing on how they can improve the gut health of the pig, so that they can continue to perform at a highly efficient rate.

?Looking at all of our challenges and hurdles, we?ve had changes in our rules for antibiotic use,? said Otto-Tice. ?Producers are being more judicious in their use. We?re finding alternative products. We have one in our portfolio that does really well when there is a health challenge when pigs come in with some type of viral or pathogenic disease.?
