Providing convenience to growers

As farmers roll out their equipment in the spring, they keep their eyes on the task ahead: planting. They hope to accomplish this task with minimal issues.

A chemical company wants to help growers get through the 2018 growing season with minimal issues. They plan to do so by offering growers convenience through their new and enhanced product lineup.

AMVAC Chemical offers growers a new herbicide ahead of the 2018 growing season.

Rich Porter serves as product development manager of the Midwest region for AMVAC. Porter says Impact Z?, a spin-off of AMVAC Chemical?s Impact?, offers growers added convenience.

?Impact Z? is a premixture. It combines two active ingredients: topramazone and atrazine. This (product) offers convenience to growers,? Porter said. ?The added benefit of having atrazine in the mixture is making sure we?re going to get the best performance. Tank mixes can be done, and still will be done with Impact?. This offers a lot more convenience, and we wanted to optimize the performance with the right amount of atrazine.?

When asked what sets Impact Z? apart from other herbicides, Porter said: ?What differentiates Impact Z? from other products in its class is corn safety; it is extremely safe to corn. We have tested very exaggerated rates, up to 12 times the use rate, and have not been able to injure corn. It?s also a very low rate use product, and I think that?s convenient for growers.?

Porter says aside from offering growers convenience, AMVAC Chemical will introduce an existing product in a bigger way. He says Index, AMVAC Chemical?s enhanced liquid insecticide, will help growers optimize performance.

?Index has two components, (and) one of them is an organophosphate. Much like SmartBox, we want to have a closed handling system. The safety of the product is very important, very critical to our growers. It will be in a closed system – a 15 gallon container. We?ll use a pump to pump it through a metering device called a Doseatron and deliver it primarily in water. We?re (also) looking at liquid fertilizer as we go forward, to use it in a fertilizer as a carrier,? Porter said.

Porter says Index helps growers tackle pests such as corn rootworm, wireworm and grub.

?Traits can?t address all seed pests. In some cases, they?re struggling with rootworm because of resistance issues. Our products address those problems that growers face,? Porter said.
