Prestage Farms finds new location for their pork plant. The proposed location for Prestage Farms pork plant is five miles south of Eagle Grove on Hwy 17.

Wright County Board of Supervisors Chairman Stan Watne says 19 other counties had been in contact Prestage Farms after the deal for the Mason City location went belly up.

?We just felt we had an excellent location for this. One of the things I kept hearing about our friends in Mason City was that it was too close to the city. So we felt a rural setting would be perfect.?

Watne says they hope to learn from mistakes at Mason City.

?It seemed like a natural fit. Then to have it out in the rural areas so we do not have truck traffic in through Clarion, Eagle Grove, or Belmont. It is situated close to new 20 and I-35 which is appealing East or West.?

Watne says the plant will generate over $400 million of economic activity once the plant is up and running.

A public hearing discussing the pork plant is scheduled July 25th at the Wright County Courthouse in Clarion.
