Presidential budget causes agricultural concerns

The federal government has upended a long standing goal of cutting the federal deficit.

The only way for Congress to get anything done was to fund both sides. That appeared to be what the vote to spend an additional $400 billion would do.

However, upon closer examination – there are not going to be expansions in every area. There will be good uses for disaster recovery, for those hit by hurricanes and fires, and the biodiesel subsidy will be retroactively reinstated.

Other areas pertaining to farm and food programs, the Administration wants deep cuts, a change from the kinder gentler message of Saturday morning.

Agricultural groups are screaming at what the president proposes and the phrase ?dead on arrival? have been uttered many times. However, the final negotiation on crop insurance, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other farm bill programs, plus the future size of USDA and other agencies is now in full negotiations.
