Perdue promises to separate from his business interests

Agriculture Secretary nominee Sonny Perdue promises to move his assets into a new trust he nor his wife will control. According to Agri-Pulse, Perdue promises to give up control of his agribusiness, trucking and real estate interests.

Perdue?s business interests are held in Perdue Business Holdings. It is controlled by two separate family trusts. In addition to moving the assets to the new trust, Perdue says he will resign from the PBH board.

The Senate Agriculture Committee held off scheduling a confirmation hearing for Perdue pending a background investigation and the completion of critical filings. This included the ethics agreement with Office of Government Ethics and a separate OGE filing detailing his assets and income. The committee received his formal nomination late last week from the White House.

OGE requires nominees to report their income from the beginning of 2016 through their filing date, which was Feb. 1, 2017.
