As a farmer, there comes a time when you have to determine if your principles allow you to take money from the government to follow their wishes in crop and livestock production. This is one of those times.

Yesterday, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced the payments to growers of several commodities that have been targeted by tariffs.

Soybean farmers will get the bulk of the $4.7 billion payment, followed by pork producers and grain sorghum. A small payment will go to other commodities. At this point, only one cent per qualified bushel will go to corn growers.
