One dead and six missing after explosion at BASF German Headquarters

One person died and six are missing after an explosion and fire at BASF?s Germany Headquarters in Ludwigshafen. In a statement from BASF, the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. (CDT) Monday morning. Six others suffered serious injuries and are being treated at local hospitals.

?We are deeply saddened that one employee has died and several have been injured. Our deepest sympathy lies with the affected people and their families,? says Uwe Liebelt, BASF site manager Ludwigshafen.

There was visible smoke. Residents in affected areas of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim, were asked to stay indoors and close doors and windows.

BASF and the City of Ludwigshafen held a press conference at 4:00 p.m. (GMT) to inform the public about the current status.
