The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) discussed labor laws during their press conference last Wednesday at the World Pork Expo.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently said there has been movement in the Senate regarding the Farm Workforce Modernization Act. NPPC VP and Global Government Affairs Counsel Nick Giordano said they are taking an active role in working to pass the legislation.

Giordano said it?s unclear how long it will take for the legislation to pass, but they?re trying to get it out as quickly as they can.

NPPC President Jen Sorenson also commented on the matter. She emphasized how important quality, year-round labor is for agriculture, especially for the pork industry.

Sorenson added that the labor is just as important in harvest facilities as well.
